There are so many different techniques these days when it comes to coloring your hair, and I have had so many clients asking what the differences are between each one. Here are the different techniques to help you choose which one you would desire most the next time you come into the salon.
Ombré – Great for: Someone looking for contrast.
A french word meaning shaded or shading. Ombré hair coloring is generally darker at the roots through the mid-shaft and then gradually gets lighter from the mid-shaft to the ends. It is achieved using a balayage technique and is ideal for clients looking for a low-maintenance style.
Sombré – Great for: The Lazy
Sombré is a more subtle version of an ombré.
Balayage – Great For: Natural-Looking Contrast
Balayage is a French word meaning to “sweep or to paint”. It allows for a sun-kissed natural looking hair color with softer, less noticeable regrow than lines.
Flamboyage – Great for: Super-Suptle Highlights
Flamboyage is basically the same as balayage, but the ends may be lightened a little more. It incorporates both balayage and ombré techniques to give the hair more depth and a natural result.
Foil Technique (Highlights/Lowlights) – Great for: Multi-Toned shades in your hair.
Lowlights and Highlights are essentially partial coloring techniques, adding a different shade to certain strands of hair so your hair ends up having depth, texture and various complementary hues. (You have a choice of having a Full head, Half Head, Partial, or Express Highlight/Lowlight)
