Tape-In Hair Extensions: The Do's & Don'ts To Protect Your Investment
There is no harm in a refresher course on the “do’s and don’ts”
of taking care of tape-in hair extensions now and then. Here are a few tips to help you.
Tape-In Extension Do’s:
- DO wait 48 hours before washing or getting your hair wet the first time.
- DO use a leave-in conditioner from ONLY your mid-shaft to ends, Do not get on your Tape-In’s.
- DO use a wet/dry detangling brush to remove knots first, and then use a boars bristle brush to smooth the hair once the knots have been removed.
- DO use a heat protecting spray before using a straightener or curling your hair.
- DO wear your hair in a low ponytail.
- DO wash your hair often.
Tape-In Extension Don’ts
- DON’T use products containing Alcohol, Ethanol, or Oil. Products that have alcohol in them are very drying to your hair and can compromise the Tape on your extensions.
- DON’T go to bed at night with wet hair.
- DON’T use straighteners or curlers higher than 350 degrees.
- DON’T apply conditioner on your scalp or near your tape.
- DON’T brush your hair harshly, Only brush your hair the way it grows naturally from your scalp.
- DON’T wear hats, ESPECIALLY during warmer months. This will cause slipping and damage.
- DON’T skip out on washing your hair for too long as oil from your scalp can cause extensions to drop or fall out.
- DON’T go swimming in chlorinated water, lake, or ocean. Fresh water is recommended to keep the color on your extensions from fading.
